A section of the original 780 acres in the Carpere land sale in Moose Jaw will be rezoned in order to accommodate a large lot low-density residential construction project.

Under the new Bylaw No. 5598, Zoning Amendment Bylaw, 2019 (3), it's stated that 64 acres in the southeast area of the land will be rezoned to facilitate the sale of City land to Carpere Canada. This is in accordance with the Offer to Purchase between the City of Moose Jaw and Carpere Canada Industrial Park Corp.

It was back in May of this year that the City of Moose Jaw sold the nearly 780 acres of land in the Moose Jaw Industrial Park to the British Columbia-based developer at a cost of $7.8 million plus fees for development.

Back in May, Mayor Fraser Tolmie stated at City Council that the vision for the community is to bring jobs, and this will start with construction on the land and continue with a long-term plan of employment opportunities that will grow the tax base.

“When you attract business opportunities, you attract people,” said Tolmie. “And you’re expanding your tax base for homeowners as well.”

Carpere Canada is a private investment and management company focusing on Canadian agricultural opportunities. They claim to want to “bring food grown by our family of farmers to your family.”

They have partnered 20,000 acres of land for providing the U.S. and Asian markets with grain. They have strategic sourcing and farms in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Winnipeg, Tisdale, Nipawin and Vancouver.

More details on the construction plans will be provided as they become available.
