City Council is down one seat, but they hope to have that filled at this October's by-election.

Councillor Don Mitchell resigned back in May in order to care for his ailing wife, prompting City officials to set a municipal by-election to replace the space Mitchell left.

Those hoping to be a part of Council have a chance to prepare for the running, as candidate information packages are now available.

You can find the packages either online or at City Hall. If you decided to pick a package up instead of using the online package, you can pick one up at City Hall's City Clerk/Solicitors Department on the second floor. People can come in and ask for a package.

"[The package] is very detailed. It tells you right from how to file your nomination papers, who is eligible to file papers, it talks about where the voting places are and all of the bylaws in regards to signage," explained Assistant City Clerk and Official Returning Officer Tracy Wittke. "All of the information that would take you from the first step to the very last."

As of now, residents of Moose Jaw will have a week to learn more about the running for the by-election, as nominations will start being accepted on August 27th at 9:00 am. Candidates will have until September 12th at 4:00 pm to fill out a form, at which point nominations will close.

If you choose to run for Council, forms will have to be filled out and witnessed at City Hall, along with a $100 deposit with the form for it to be accepted.

The City is also looking for election officials to work in the by-election this October. Wittke said they won't need as many Officials since there will be only four polling places this year. Those forms can also be found at City Hall or online and have to be completed and handed in by August 27th at 4:00 pm.

Advance polls will be opened from October 3rd to the 15th, with the by-election day on October 17th.
