This past Saturday, members of the City of Moose Jaw's Cultural Diversity Advisory Committee held a strategic planning session to build a welcoming and inclusive community. The community brought in several delegates from Saskatoon including April Sora, an Immigration Diversity and Inclusion Consultant.

The presentation was called "Working Towards an Inclusive Community: the Strength of Partnerships" and touched on planning to embrace diversity."What we were asked to do today was to share our experiences from a municipal perspective, on the contributions that we make and the work that we do in the community."

Sora said its important to talk about inclusion in your community and have a strategy in place to embrace diversity, something Police Chief Rick Bourassa found interesting. Bourassa took part in the meeting as a way to start that conversation.

"Although we have lots of really good work going on, we haven't really had a coherent and cohesive strategy attached to that. So this was an opportunity for everyone to come together and start to identify what we're doing but also what other places are doing."

This session is one of the first steps Moose Jaw and its partners are taking to building a strong, sustainable community through cultivating and embracing our diversity.
