Don Mitchell has served the City of Moose Jaw for over 15 years.

He made the decision at the end of May to step back as an elected official.

Mitchell has stated that many factors played into his decision, but two main factors stood out. First, timing was big as the summer would give the City time to prepare for a by-election. The newly elected official would have a full two years on Council before the next by-election. Mitchell also stated that family played the largest role.

"My wife hasn't been well and has had some major challenges, and as the primary supporter, I can't put the time that I should be putting into addressing some of the issues on City Council, so I thought I should step aside and give somebody else the opportunity."

After his announcement, Mitchell stayed with Council until the end of June and plans to stay involved with the community as much as his time will allow.

October is expecting to be the time to vote on the newest member of City Council.
