The Saskatchewan Air Show is coming, and some of the acts coming to 15 Wing Moose Jaw are trickling out.

Capt. Blake McNaughton, the Snowbirds' standards officer and the air operations manager for the air show, said there is a buzz around the city for the air show.

“We’re really excited to bring it back, and it’ll be bigger than you remember,” said McNaughton.

The Snowbirds, in particular, are happy to be at the air show for the first time in several years.

“The team is psyched,” said McNaughton. “We’re very, very excited to be participating here at home. Our family is going to come out and enjoy the entire air show experience.”

The air show goes July 6-7 at 15 Wing Moose Jaw. Tickets go on sale at Saskairshow.ca starting Saturday.

Some of the top line aircraft in the Canadian forces will be flying the Moose Jaw skies on that weekend. The CF-18 demo is also coming to the air show as well as civilian acts like Brent Handy and world class static acts, along with a beer tent.

McNaughton is the air show operations director for the Saskatchewan air show due to his experience with the air show circuit.

There is a 75-year-history of pilots being trained in the Moose Jaw area.

“There’s a rich history of aviation here in Saskatchewan,” McNaughton said. “There’s a unique relationship between the city of Moose Jaw and the base. And we want to throw open our doors and invite the public to come have a party with us. There’s going to be flying and all the stuff on the ground. It’s going to be awesome.”

The air show is coming after a couple of years of preparation when it comes to the capacity at 15 Wing.

“Most of the first year of planning was all about getting our parking and our infrastructure in place so we could handle the large amount of people that are coming, and make sure it’s an enjoyable experience,” McNaughton said.

“We’ve put a lot of effort to do our best to make sure it’s a smooth experience and an enjoyable one for young and old.”

The air show is tying into Sidewalk Days this year as well.
