Often people who experience domestic violence do not know where they can turn, but the Moose Jaw Transition House is somewhere that women can go for help.  Lori Lancaster, the Executive Director at the Transition House outlined who the House is open too.

"At the Transition House we are a safe shelter for women and their dependent children who are exposed to intimate partner violence."

The House is an important place for those going through domestic violence to find safety but also to learn skills necessary to succeed in their lives. Lancaster explains: "We have a variety of different programs that we run that teach skills to our clients, we do life skills at the House trying to make sure that our clients are well equipped when they leave us to live a life free of violence."

The Business Women of Moose Jaw saw the work being done by the Transition House and wanted to get involved. Every year they put on the Moose Jaw Prism Awards, which highlight women's achievements in the Friendly City. For the last five years they have made a donation to the Transition House. Roberta Fonger, the outgoing President of the Business Women of Moose Jaw, detailed why they chose the Transition House to donate to.

"The Business Women's group is all about collaboration and building-up of women  - so in the Business Women's group we are try to support each other by sharing common information and helping everyone succeed. The natural fit was to move with the Transition House, because they are also in the process of supporting women who are recovering from unforturnate circumstances and [to help them] become successful in their lives."

The Prism Awards took place on March 3rd, and the cheque was presented on Wednesday afternoon for a total of $9455.

Over the five-year partnership a total of around $94 000 has been raised for the Transition House.
