Since 1997 the Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre has been rescuing and educating people on Burrowing Owls.

For people looking to learn more on the owls there is lots of opportunity says Owl Coordinator Lori Johnson.

"We are actually open seven days a week from the May long weekend to the September long weekend and we see many many visitors throughout our season both in house and through our outreach program the owls on tour".

The centre also has other animals. Johnson explains the animals they have for the 2018 season.

"We actually have 10 burrowing owls 3 of which are the hand raised ambassador owls that we travel around the province with as well as a short eared owl and our gift store mascot which is a little gopher named s'more".

Johnson says that over the course of 21 years the number of owls can certainly fluctuate

"This is probably a really good number for us we have in past year had more up to 20 at a time and some years we have had less so it depends on whether we are receiving any injured owls from the wild or if we are doing any breeding throughout a particular season".

The season opened on May 19th with a large variety of stations for people of all ages to enjoy, ranging from bouncy castles and bubbles to BBQ and meeting owls. You can go and see the owls and visit the center until they close on September long weekend.
