For all those missing the Buffalo Pound Pool, this summer will be the only one without it, as construction is underway and on schedule for the completion of the new, 2.1 million dollar pool at the provincial park. This week new features have been added by Westrum Construction, and everything is on budget and on schedule, according to Byron Davis, executive director of parks infrastructure and capital planning.

"Westridge Construction was the succesful constructor on the tender, and it mobilized the site in July, things are actually coming along very well, excavation for the pool basin was completed, and actually just this week, Westridge has poured the main slab for the lane pool section, so work is coming along as scheduled."

According to Davis, there are a good amount of differences between the old pool and the new, with a lot to look forward to.

"The old pool was sort of a disc shaped structure, this pool has many more features in terms of design, it'll have a beach entry that will accomodate folks with physical challenges, and that will go into a main recreation pool, and then there will be more of a lane swimming area."

The pool will be just under 4,000 square feet and looks to be able to accomodate around 250 people, with it to be fully finished before the summer of next year.

"Construction will take place throughout the rest of the summer and fall, beginning with the main components, structural components like the pool basin and the building's construction, that goes along with it, and then construction will be completed in the spring, and open in time for the camping season next summer."
