COUNCIL

The deadline has passed and campaigning will begin to see who our next city council will be comprised of.

A total of 15 candidates are running for the six spots on city council, with three of those being current councilors looking for re-election.

Current councilors vying for re-election are Heather Eby, Dawn Luhning, and Crystal Froese.

The 12 residents looking to sit on council for the first time are Jody Chell, Doug Blanc, Earl Swalm, Dwayne St Dennis, Joni Brisbin, Doug Schick, Nicholas Styck, Jamey Logan, Jamaal James, Kim Robinson, Trevor McPherson, and Steven White.

Three current councilors have not filed their papers and will not be seeking re-election, including Scott McMann, Chris Warren, and Brian Swanson. Their last meeting as councilors will be October 19.

 We'll have more with each council candidate as we approach the November 9 election date.

MAYOR

There are three candidates in the running for Mayor of Moose Jaw; Current mayor, Fraser Tolmie, will be looking to be re-elected, and he will be running against John Kot and Nancy Nash/SazachaFk-tghaxeeahw.

 

SCHOOL BOARD

Moving over to the school board nominees for the upcoming election, starting with the Prairie South School Division.

Subdivisions 1 through 5 will see one representative elected per division, while Subdivision 6 will have 5 electees.

  • Subdivision 1, which includes the communities of Central Butte, Chaplin, Craik, Eyebrow, Mortlach, will see Wayne Miller and Darcy Pryor running.
  • Subdivision 2, which includes the communities of Avonlea, Caronport, Lindale, Rouleau is being sought after by Robert Bachmann.
  • Subdivision 3, which includes the communities of Assiniboia, Mossbank is between John Bumbac and Sandra Jennett.
  • Subdivision 4, which includes the communities of Bengough, Coronach, Rockglen, will have Giselle Wilson acclaimed.
  • Subdivision 5, which includes the communities of Glentworth, Gravelbourg, Kincaid, Lafleche, and Mankota is a race between Shawn Davidson, and Bonnie Porier.
  • Subdivision 6 for the city of Moose Jaw, is Crystal Froese, Brett Hagan, Todd Johnson, Mary Jukes, Brian Martynook, Jan Pogorzelec, Barry Stewart, Wendy Vincent, Gail Whitfield, and Lew Young.

In the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division, there are four spots up for grabs in the Moose Jaw region and they have all been filled without contest. Joann Blazieko, Christine Boyczuk, Alison Bradish, and Derek Hassen will all be on the new board.
