The Canada Border Services Agency has shared a few tips on how to make your border crossing quick and smooth this long weekend.

Make sure to plan your border crossing, long-weekends result in higher than normal volumes, so plan your entry during non-peak hours such as early morning.

The Monday tends to be busiest with everyone returning on the final day of their time off, so plan around that.

There are many other things you should know when coming back over, such as your purchases, personal exemptions and restrictions, and keep travel documents handy.

Declare all purchases, acquisitions, and/or gifts received when returning to Canada. If you are bringing gifts, it is recommended they not be wrapped as border services may need to examine them more in-depth.

There are also a few other things to be aware of when crossing the border, such as only one turkey per person can be brought into Canada from the United States.

Despite the fact that cannabis will become legal and regulated in Canada in the near future, it will remain illegal to take cannabis across international borders, whether you are entering or leaving Canada.

CBSA officers also actively watch for missing children and may ask detailed questions about any accompanying minors. Travellers who share custody of their children should carry a consent letter and contact information for the other parent so that officers can follow up and confirm details.
