Former Minister of Economy and Kindersley MLA, Bill Boyd, has been fined a total of $35,000 for two environmental charges.

Boyd pleaded guilty to two violations of wildlife habitat protection and environmental management laws in February. His case was then adjourned to today.

There was a $5,000 fine, plus a $2,000 surcharge, in regards to cultivating an area of native grassland near Eston between April 1st and May 3rd.

The second charge, which was related to excavating a section of the South Saskatchewan River bank, will cost Boyd $20,000, plus an $8,000 surcharge.

Boyd has also been ordered to remediate the damage to the river bank shoreline and protected grasslands.
