Today typically marks the day hundreds of volunteers get together to collect food donations for the Moose Jaw Food Bank.

This year, that plan is obviously off the table. There's been a lot of discussion as to whether the Food Bank and Hillcrest Church could hold the food drive as they have in the past, but the biggest obstacle in doing that would be the hundreds of volunteers needed to collect, sort, and deliver the donated food.

Daycee Richardson from the Hillcrest Church explains this year's plan.

"When we spoke to the Food Bank about their needs, we agreed the best way to proceed would be to have an online giving campaign. Because we normally collect 50,000 pounds of food, we decided we would set our goal at $50,000 to go towards food purchases. The needs of the Food Bank are still there, we just knew we couldn't meet them in the same way this year."

"They can go to MJFoodBank.org. There will be a Donate Now button, or if you prefer to write a cheque, cheques can be written to the Moose Jaw Food Bank."

Those wishing to send a cheque can mail it to:

305 Fairford Street W,
Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
S6H 1V8

Funds raised will be used to purchase much-needed food.
