With the temperature forecasted to hit a high of 30 degrees Saturday, its a good time to remember about the dangers heat pose to your pets, specifically your dogs.

People take great lengths to stay comfortable in the sweltering heat, and it's important for us to remember that our dogs need the same consideration.

It isn't easy to tell what your dog needs at that moment, but you can see the sign for when heat stress is approaching.

Gary Overs, a local trainer, said dogs will excessively pant and have look of panic on their face when the heat really starts to get to them. You just have to make sure you take the right steps to cooling them down.

"Well they say not to pour ice water on a dog, probably tepid water would be your best bet and dogs sweat through their pads so by even putting your dog even in shallow water feet first, that cools it down too," Overs explained.

Obviously, another way to help cool them down is keeping them out of the sun and getting them into a cooler environment.

Also, its often we hear of pets being left in cars even with constant reminders, but leaving a pet or anyone in the car is worse than you may think it is.

"If the temperature the outside's 24 degrees [Celsius], the car will be 38 degrees within ten minutes, that's hot," Overs said. "You know that's a hundred [degrees] Fahrenheit."

Again, it is hard to tell what your dog is thinking, so if you are ever in doubt about a pets health due to heat exposure, be sure to call your veterinarian.
