While we haven't had a tremendous number of stories about hail storms this summer, the storms that we have been hit with are doing more damage than usual according to Saskatchewan Hail Insurance.

Officials say larger areas are being left black and unproductive, yet the number of claims remains around average. There have been several high profile storms that hit the province in the spring that left many areas under several inches of hail. One storm hit Moose Jaw and forced residents to shovel their driveways and sidewalks.

The report says more farmers are buying hail insurance this year, setting a new record of 16 million acres now being covered.
