Grief grips everyone at least once in their life. The question is what you do when it hits you? You may ask yourself “who am I now, how will I survive?”

One Assinaboia born author answered that question after her husband had passed away in 2014. Gaylene Guillemin had a tough time going through the process of life after her husband died, and in her new book, "Beyond Shattered Dreams," she talks about her grieving process, what inspired her to keep moving forward, and how she made it through the most difficult time in her life.

"I learnt by taking one step at a time I could do it and it is scary, and I would go like one step forward, three backwards," Guillemin explained one way she dealt with the loss. "Especially on a grief journey because you think you're going along and you're surviving and then all of the sudden there's a set back."

Guillemin is currently making her way across Saskatchewan on a book tour, to talk more about her experience and to sign copies. She stopped by Moose Jaw this past week.

When she described what its like to lose her husband, she said its like losing her identity, because its no longer 'Merv and Gaylene'.

"It's really hard when you lose your significant other because all of the sudden your status goes from being a married wife to being single," Guillemin said. "That's really awkward when you're socially out, and you know I'm so fortunate because the community has been so supportive and without our family we couldn't have done it."

Guillemin is also a motivational speaker. She tries to help others by living through her motto: “By shining my light my hope is to inspire others who want to shine their light.”

She may have come and gone from Moose Jaw, but you can always find her book online.
