The community of Assiniboia came together on April 18th to celebrate National Volunteer Week.

People from Assiniboia and surrounding area came to recognize those in the community who go take it to the next level in terms of volunteering.

Kerri Martin is the awards organizer and spoke on how often people donate their time,

"I honestly think everyday there is someone volunteering for various organizations and it really shows what kind of giving community Assiniboia and area really is...

And I just think its wonderful whether its a youth organization, meals on wheels or the ladies auxiliary that is volunteering for the long-term care."

Martin mentioned there's plenty of variety within these organizations,

"I think the highlight is just seeing the diversity in the crowd. Whether it's a hockey board who is out for the evening with their group or the ladies auxiliary it's all special."

"With our volunteer recognition awards we host an annual supper and we invite volunteers from the community and the area to just come out and celebrate national volunteer week by sharing in good fellowship, conversation and a good meal."

Awards were handed out in 3 categories:

Rural - Gail Delorme

Urban - Shirley Punga

Youth - Logan Fettes
