The Moose Jaw Coop held their Fuel Good Day fundraiser last week, bringing in an impressive return which will be donated to a local organization.

On Tuesday, September 21, the Coop donated 10 cents from every litre of fuel pumped at the CO-OP locations in Moose Jaw and its Avonlea location to Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw. Extra donations were given for cookies, coffee, and Big Cool slush sales.

In total, $13,030 was raised.

“People are excited to be able to come out and support, and we have such an amazing community! Even if it meant waiting in a long lineup, they still had a smile on their face as they knew it was for a great cause," says Michaela Turner, Marketing and Community Relations Manager for Moose Jaw Co-op,

Board Members and Volunteers of Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw were at each of the locations throughout the entire day and were excited to invite the passing traffic to come fill up, as well as spread awareness.

Turner says the day was a great success.

“Our community has done it once again and we’ve exceeded our previous total. We are so proud to hold this annual event, and it continues to be a success, thanks to our community. To have the chance to put this non-profit group into the spotlight and get people talking about Heartland Hospice and ask questions on what do they do and why it is important was a really big priority. It is an important group and we wanted to educate our community. Raising the awareness was great, and I think the total donation will really help them with their important initiatives,” says Turner.

Amanda Dowling is on the board of directors for Heartland Hospice and is the chair of the fundraising and engagement committee.

"We had people come up to us and say that they didn't have a vehicle or that they had a full tank already, and they still gave a cash donation. We were thanked so many times for advocating for hospice care in town."

"(With this money) We are going to transform the access centre space into three hospice palliative bedrooms. We currently only have one, but that one we are going to transform into a sacred space for the entire facility to access. We are also looking at creating a family room filled with resources and family-friendly activities."

The Moose Jaw Co-op and Heartland Hospice would like to thank all those involved in making the day a huge success.

Moose Jaw Co-op’s Fuel Good Day is an annual event hosted every September. Applications will open in spring and will be advertised for local non-profit groups to apply to be the recipient for 2022.
