Another Saskatchewan organization that supports families with kids with autism is closing its doors.

Back at the beginning of October, Saskatchewan Families for Effective Autism Treatment (SaskFEAT), an organization made up of families interested and concerned with the well-being and development of children on the autism spectrum, had closed down after 17 years of serving Saskatchewan families.

Now, the Casey Foundation announced its closure at the end of April. The foundation, which has been in operation for 15 years now, supports families and people with autism by providing funding to them. After managing to raise and distribute over $900,000 to thousands of Saskatchewan families, the organization had to dissolve due to "rapidly increasing applications for funding have resulted in the foundation’s inability to remain sustainable."

The Casey Foundation made said in a statement that is was a difficult, but necessary decision.

Applications from the 2018 year will continue to be honoured by the foundation, and they still ask for donations and funding to help them fill any 2018 applications that come in.

The province provides close to $12 million per year for autism services and supports, but some advocates are asking, is it enough?
