Benches along Main Street might be available to be adopted soon by local people and groups.

The matter came to executive committee Monday.

Applications will be available soon and will be open to local schools, businesses, artists and non-profit organizations and will be processed on a first come, first serve basis. The idea was spurred by Moose Jaw Pride painting the bench in front of the Rainbow Retro store last summer.

Logos and advertising aren’t permitted but a business sponsoring a bench may be able to put a small plaque on the bench they’ve adopted.

The program will come to council at a future meeting. The city’s parks and recreation department will be facilitating the process once the program is approved.
