Last week, Discover Moose Jaw reported on an outbreak of COVID-19 at the Capilano Court Retirement Villa here in Moose Jaw.

At the time, only two cases had been reported at the facility which houses approximately 30 residents. As of today, Aug. 19, the case count has increased to 15 positive infections among residents and staff.

Capilano Court released a statement on Aug. 11 saying they were taking proactive measures to curtail the spread of the virus. The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has confirmed that the majority of residents are fully vaccinated and Discover Moose Jaw has heard anecdotally that all but one resident have received both doses.

According to the SHA, the majority of infections have been mild. Currently, the South Central zone has 41 active cases of COVID-19 and three people in the Hhspital. Discover Moose Jaw was unable to determine whether any of those hospitalizations included infected individuals from Capilano Court.

The SHA says they are working with the facility with guidance to control the outbreak and that vaccination continues to be the best protection against COVID-19 transmission and serious illness.
