After a slow start, seeding progress in Saskatchewan has now jumped ahead of the five year average.

Currently seeding is all but finished in the province, with 99% in the ground, which is ahead of the 97% average, with crop development already rated at fair to excellent condition.

It's not all good news, however. The constant wind has damaged crops and delayed spraying operations in many areas.

Cutworms, flea beetles, localized flooding, hail and lack of moisture have also caused issues, but the recent rain will help with the dry topsoil.

There is also a reminder to watch for power lines as SaskPower reports that there have been 149 incidents of power line contact this year, with 19 occurring in June so far.
