The Moose Jaw Festival of Dance wrapped up their 59th annual Dance Inspirations competition Sunday afternoon after 5 straight days of talent and passion crossed the stage to be adjudicated.

Starting on Wednesday, three adjudicators from across North America made their way to the Friendly City to see what dancers had to offer. This included Jazz, Contemporary, Broadway, and Acro adjudicator Chris Hale, ballet and lyrical adjudicator Andrea Palmer, and Tap, Hip Hop and Variety adjudicator Leslie Drewitz.

Drewitz, who has been adjudicating for around 20 years, was happy with what she saw performance-wise.

"I feel the caliber and standard of instruction that I see in this town, I don't know if they're all from Moose Jaw or from Saskatchewan even, is what I remember from being a kid," she said. "It's a very high standard and the kids are taught very well."

As for the city, Drewitz said she also enjoyed historic downtown Moose Jaw.

In total, 11 studios from across Saskatchewan competed in the Festival, including Moose Jaw's Dance Images by BJ, Doris Sitter's School of Dance and Caronport's Briercrest College's Community Dance studio. In total, 574 dancers made their way across the stage competing in various categories and disciplines.

"You see many many different people come here and it's nice to see," said the President of the Moose Jaw Festival of Dance, Jennifer Nant. "We've had a few new studios come here and we hope to get more next year."

The competition is put on by dedicated parents who are a part of the Festival committee, and one thing they pride themselves on is the $37,000 worth of scholarship money they are able to give to dancers and studios yearly.

A good chunk of that money is awarded at the Dance Challenge which took place Sunday afternoon. The 25 highest marking groups from 6 different studios competed in the dance off, with both Moose Jaw studios placing in the Senior and Junior categories.
