The Moose Jaw Humane Society is joining other shelters across the province with a three-day blitz to try and find homes for a large number of our furry friends.

The Empty Our Shelters Adopt-a-Thon is underway with an estimated 500 cats and dogs available according to Acting Executive Director at the Moose Jaw Humane Society Dana Haukaas.

"This is the second year that we have been involved in the province-wide adoption event," explained Haukaas. "All of the kittens that have been born this summer are starting to be old enough to be ready for adoptions and it's important that we clear the shelter and make space as we head into the fall and winter."

Haukaas says as the colder weather approaches, they get more calls for strays and more animals turned in when compared to the summer months. You can check out the local pets Friday or Saturday between noon and 5 pm.
