Another separate water break that has been affecting residents is the on the 900 block of Athabasca Street.

This is due to the age of one of the pipes there and how fragile they can be with any shifting.

The pipe on Athabasca had an alarming five breaks in it.

“Some of those soils are helping to hold that pipe intact and that little bit of disturbance might be enough to cause it to shift once it re-pressurizes. These aren't uncommon events unfortunately, five is definitely excessive,” explained Darrin Stephanson, municipal operations manager for the city of Moose Jaw. “We do have a few areas where we have some pipe that is quite deteriorated in this nature and we have to handle them very carefully.”

The pipe is so old and deteriorated, workers are taking a longer time to repair it to avoid the pipe being destroyed.

Stephanson added that residents in the area whose water was periodically not working did have access to a potable water truck though.

Lines like this break because of their age, and some more pipes are expected, without surprise to many, to burst due to frost.

It is not yet confirmed if the break on South Hill has been caused by deterioration from aged pipes.
