The federal government's Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) continues to pay dividends for communities in the province.

Announced last week, the newest initiative would see $81.2 million dollars allocated to 23 communities in a federal/provincial partnership.

Saskatchewan Government Relations Minister Don McMorris and Jim Carr, federal special representative for the prairies, announced the funding, which would see $44.3 million come from the federal coffers, while $39.6 would come from the provincial.

In existence since 2016, but only coming to widespread public prominence in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the government's attempts to mitigate its economic damage, the ICIP program was used as a way to stimulate and keep job growth going in the provinces as the coronavirus worked to shut everything down.

Infrastructure projects that would qualify for the ICIP program would be in one of five streams, with the 23 newly announced projects getting their funding from the community, culture, recreation and green streams of the program.

The municipalities that have received funding have also committed to an additional 29.5 million, pushing the total committed infrastructure spending to just under $112 million dollars.
