The province and the City of Moose Jaw have declared October as Agriculture Month.

To recognize the work farmers do in the agriculture industry and, in turn, for everyone in Saskatchewan, this month is dedicated to highlighting their work.

Jaycee Peutert, the Farm Management Extension Specialist with the Agriculture Knowledge Centre in Moose Jaw, said they are pleased Mayor Fraser Tolmie and the City observing the month,

"We kind of just reached out to the mayors office there and just explained what agriculture month was and how the Minister of Agriculture declared the month of October as Ag month across the province."

"It was a great step. I'm new in the role so I'm trying to gain some traction and it was really nice to have them so receptive. We're looking at doing some other things; we're going to do a screening on the documentary Food Evolution. You might be hearing more about that later we're just confirming a few things there. Its really nice to have the city open to it, they're a good channel to reach those consumers so we really appreciate it".

Peutert goes on to say that one of the primary goals of the month is to raise awareness;

"We're just trying to increase that awareness that farmers in the province of Saskatchewan are doing their best and making the right choices to produce that safe and affordable sustainable food in the province. So just reaching out to the public to try and bridge that gap, because there seems to be a big gap from the farm to the consumers so we're just doing our best to make sure everyone is on the same page".
