The City of Moose Jaw has announced that they are getting set to go ahead with Phase Two of the Watermain Replacement program that kicked off last year.

This year's schedule will see five sites and about 2.7 kilometers of castiron pipe get an overhaul.

Locations to be affected include:

  • 665 meters on Caribou St. W from 4th Ave. NW to 1st Ave. NW
  • 1060 meters on High St. W from 8th Ave. NW to 3rd Ave. NW
  • 245 meters on 3rd Ave. NW from River St. W to Fairford St. W
  • 385 meters on Keith St. W from 9th Ave. SW to Valleyview Dr.
  • 350 meters on Valleyview Dr. from east of 9th Ave. SW to 7th Ave. SW

With many of the original cast iron pipes nearing 100 years old, the city has seen escalating rates of failure and maintenance costs, while residents have been affected cloudy or red water from the rusting, low pressure, and low disinfection due to the reduced pipe area.

In addition to the work on the pipes, the city will also take the opportunity to address other infrastructure in these areas including:

  • Replacement of associated valves, hydrants, and hydrant leads.
  • Replacement of the majority of water service connections from the watermain to the property line.
  • The majority of the locations will receive asphalt overlay of road.

Residents impacted by the work being done this year, can expect to be notified over the next few weeks.

Overall, the program is slated to continue over 18 years, and see work done to approximately 80 kilometers of pipeline.
