Over 30 years at one job, let alone one place, is almost unheard of.

But Captain George Paterson and Captain Dale Nash of the Moose Jaw fire department both did just that.

Hired back in August of 1984 as a Firefighter, Paterson was promoted to Lieutenant in 2012, to Captain in 2016 and has now retired as an Acting Assistant Chief.
On December 3, 1999 George was awarded the Governor General’s Award, the Medal of Bravery, for his actions performing a rescue on May 11, 1997.
At that time, a man was pinned in a highway tractor that was on fire. Due to his efforts, the man was freed.

Captain Nash was hired on May 19th, back in 1987 as a Firefighter, was promoted to Lieutenant on in May of 2016 and to his current position as Captain in October of 2016.
“Throughout his career Dale has been an absolute pleasure to work with,” said Moose Jaw Fire Chief Rod Montgomery. “His friendliness, professionalism and easy-going personality made him a favorite on any shift he worked on.”

“Dale is a gentle giant with a ready smile, always a gentleman, and friend to all.” Said Cathie Bassett, Public Education Officer. “Everyone will miss him tremendously”.

The Moose Jaw Fire Department and the City of Moose Jaw thank both men for their many years of service and wish them both all the best in their retirement.
