The Swift Current Rural RCMP had quite the go of it this past Friday night, as they were one of several parties that responded to a call of a sunken boat on Diefenbaker Lake east of Saskatchewan Landing between Herbert Ferry and Prairie Lake.

Thirteen people were on the Tige RZ2 ski boat for some wakeboard action, and according to the Swift Current Rural RCMP, it sounds as though the boat hit a large wave around 9:30 p.m. on a very windy Friday night and sank.

Around 11 p.m. the boat owner's dad went looking for the passengers (all of whom are from the Saskatoon area) and found nine of them on one shoreline. Around 12:30 am a 9-1-1 call came in saying there were still four people missing, and that's when most of the Swift Current Rural RCMP detachment, with two on their boat, along with Morse RCMP, herbert Fire Department and Beechy Fire and Ambulance responded.

The other four people were then found on the south shoreline and all thirteen passengers were unharmed as all of them had life jackets.

There haven't been any charges laid, but the matter is still under investigation. And as for the boat, it's not a hazard according to the Swift Current Rural RCMP, as it's under about 150 feet of water.
