New equipment and access to more than one piece of the same equipment means they can be more efficient - and being more efficient means they'll be able to save more lives. 800 CHAB and the Moose Jaw Health Foundation kicked

off the 12th Annual 800 CHAB Family First Radiothon Thursday morning at 6:00 am, broadcasting live for 36 hours and taking your donations.

Director of Diagnostic Services Patti Shirkey at the Dr FH Wigmore, says living in a community like Moose Jaw really helps.

"We're very fortunate to have events such as this, such as the Festival of Trees, all of the community-based support that we receive at the hospital really helps us to do our business well. I'm always thankful to see you guys in the lobby each year; it sure rolls around quickly, and thanks for the opportunity to give."

The end goal is to have four, fully-functional operating rooms so that while one procedure is underway, another can be prepared in order to save time. The equipment doesn't come cheap, however, and that's why we're asking for your donations through 6 pm Friday evening.

In 2016 the Radiothon and Health Foundation purchase a new MRI machine, which Doctor Uzma Shaheen says gets a lot of use.

"It makes all the difference. Sometimes we get referrals from Saskatoon, Regina we get referrals - saying 'Our patients are bigger, can you do them?' (use the MRI). You feel proud. You feel happy that we can do this thing in this small town."
