Jett Woo is known for his bone-crushing hits and just generally being hard to play against. His offensive game has also shown some big growth in his third Western Hockey League season.

That growth was recognized on Monday as the 18-year-old defenceman was named WHL Player of the Week.

"Everyone has their views of me and my style of play, so I'm trying to learn a two-way game and trying to become that two-way defenceman. To get that award is good to know that I'm going in the right direction," said Woo.

Woo registered a goal and seven points in three games for the Warriors, extending his point streak to eight games.

He started the week with a goal and four points in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss for the Warriors to the Medicine Hat Tigers.

He picked up two assists in Friday night's win over the Saskatoon Blades and then added another helper in Saturday loss to the Blades at Mosaic Place.

Woo said the team success has definitely fed into his success, "The whole thing really started from our road trip in Alberta, the whole team was able to do pretty well, aside from the Calgary game, but as a team, we were able to roll off that," he said. "Credit goes to the guys for putting the puck in the net for me, so hopefully we can just keep it rolling and keep it going into the break."

Woo is currently 15th among defencemen in the WHL with 23 points in 24 games this season. His five goals are also 15th among defencemen.

The Winnipeg product currently sits four goals and two points off his career highs from last season.

The Warriors have a big matchup on tap this weekend to end the first half of the season as they will square off with the Regina Pats in a home-and-home.

Woo said it's going to be a fun series to close things out before the holidays, "No matter who we play really, it's going to be exciting, and the Saturday game is the Teddy Bear Toss game, so that's going to be a lot of fun," he said. "It seems like the first half of the season has gone by quickly, it's flying by, so hopefully we can keep rolling and enjoy this and leave it all out there."

The Warriors head into the Queen City on Friday night and then host the Pats on Saturday.
