It was a busy night on Wednesday night at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre as the Original 16 Cash League took over for a full slate of eight games.
Six teams remain undefeated after two weeks of action in the league.
The Penny Barker rink won 9-2 over the Barb Wallace to improve to 2-0 on the year, while Wallace drops to 0-2. Barker was rolling right from the start, scoring one in the first; stealing one in the second; three more in the third; another one in the fourth; and three more in the fifth for the quick win.
Lorraine Arguin up ended Ben Gamble, 9-7, thanks to a four-ender in the sixth that put her up 8-6 after Gamble stole three in the fifth. Arguin is now 2-0, while Gamble drops to 0-2.
Ryan Wenarchuk (2-0) started strong and finished strong in a 5-2 win over Ralph Courtnage (0-2). Wenarchuk scored two in the first and led 3-0 after two, and then sealed the win with one in the sixth and a steal of one in the seventh.
Murray Stroeder needed an extra end to stay unbeaten, scoring two in the ninth to knock off Joe Gunnis, 7-5. The Gunnis rink stole one in the eighth to tie the game, but Stroeder bounced back in the extra end to improve to 2-0. Gunnis falls to 1-1.
Joel Jordison pulled out a back-and-forth 8-5 win over Wade Gray to improve to 2-0, while Gray dropped to 0-2. Jordison scored three in the first, but Gray fought right back with two in the second. The two sides went back-and-forth over the next four ends, trading singles in the third and fourth ends and then deuces in the fifth and sixth before Jordison sealed the win with a deuce in the seventh.
Stan Barnsley improved to 2-0 on the year with a 10-4 win over Donna Ackerman, who dropped to 1-1. Barnsley started things off with four in the first and led 7-1 after three before sealing the win with another three in the fifth.
Patrick Ackerman (1-1) scored his first win of the year with a 7-3 win over Shaunna Fritzler (0-2). Ackerman scored two in the first and then stole over the next three ends to take a 7-0 lead.
A strong finish from Bob Desjarlais (0-2) wasn’t enough to pick up the win as Warren Marcotte (1-1) secured a 6-5 win. Marcotte scored two in the first, but Desjarlais battled back to tie the game at 3-3 after four. Marcotte responded with two in the fifth and a steal of one in the sixth to take the lead for good.
