The Calgary Hitmen scored three goals in the second period on Sunday and went on to hand the Moose Jaw Warriors a 5-1 loss at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Justin Almeida scored the Warriors' lone goal during a 5-on-3 early in the third period, while goalie Adam Evanoff made 29 saves in the loss.

The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Warriors, however, they end their four-game road trip to the Central Division with six out of eight points.

"We're happy with that, we'll take that back home and keep trying to go hard to head into the break," said Warriors' overage forward Tristin Langan.

Sunday's game was the third game in three days, and fourth in five, for the Warriors. Langan said that wasn't an excuse for them coming out with the loss.

"Those guys were in the same boat as us," he said. "We just came out with a slow start, but we finished hard, so proud of the boys for not giving up."

Calgary outshot Moose Jaw 15-5 in the first period as they took a 1-0 lead after one on Kaden Elder's tenth of the season.

Moose Jaw had their moments in the second period as they put 11 shots on net, hit two posts, and had two breakaways.

Calgary, on the other hand, added another power-play goal from Kaden Elder, at 3:25, and even strength markers from James Malm, at 16:25, and Yegor Zamula, at 17:56, to extend their lead to 4-0 through 40 minutes.

In the opening moments of the third period, Keenan Taphorn took a heavy hit from Luke Coleman in the neutral zone, Coleman was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding, while Taphorn was slow to get up and did not return to the game.

During the five-minute advantage, the Hitmen took another penalty to give the Warriors a two-man advantage and Almeida picked up his sixth goal of the season, at 4:43, to break up the shutout.

The Warriors controlled the rest of the period and outshot the Hitmen 18-7, however, Moose Jaw couldn't catch a break to get back into the game.

In a last-ditch effort, the Warriors pulled their goalie with just over five minutes to go in the game, but Malm scored his second of the game into an empty net to seal the win for Calgary.

Moose Jaw outshot Calgary 29-19 in the final 40 minutes, as the game shots ended tied at 34. The Warriors were was 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The Warriors will get the next few days off before they return to home ice to host the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday night at Mosaic Place. Tickets are available at the Mosaic Place Box Office or online at www.mjwarriors.ca.
