The Moose Jaw Warriors improved their 2017 WHL Preseason record to 3-1 after a 6-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday at Mosaic Place.

The teams established a quick pace and moved up the ice with speed as they looked to go on the attack in the offensive zone.

Medicine Hat picked up the game’s first goal at 9:50 of the opening period when 16-year-old Josh Williams split the Warriors defence and snuck the puck through the pads of Adam Evanoff.

Just 30 seconds into the second period, the Warriors set up Tanner Jeannot inside the left Tigers circle, but the puck rang off the post.

Jeannot came right back at 3:39 along the Tigers right goal line and jammed the puck past goalie Duncan McGovern to tie the game at one.

With just over seven minutes left in the second, Jeannot fed 15-year-old Daemon Hunt at the blue-line where his wrist shot went through traffic and to the back of the net to give the Warriors the lead.

Moose Jaw out-shot the Tigers 13-8 in the second and went up by two at 17:18 when Tate Popple muscled his way from behind the Medicine Hat to the right side where he worked the puck in for his first of the preseason.

Just under two minutes into the third period, the Tigers collapsed on the left side of the Warriors net and Jaxon Steele was able to chop the puck past Evanoff to pull the visitors to within one.

Two minutes later, Warriors 2016 first round draft pick Brayden Tracey jumped on a loose puck behind the Tigers net and was able to beat goalie Kaeden Lane on a wrap-around to put Moose Jaw back up by two.

17-year-old Tyler Smithies extended the Warriors lead at 6:43 when he plucked the puck from in skates along the Tigers wall and then drove to the bottom of the right circle where his wrist shot beat Lane for his first of the preseason.

Under two minutes later, Hunt slid the puck across the blue-line for Jett Woo, the 17-year-old defenceman stepped around one Tiger forward and then blasted a slap-shot past Lane to make it 6-2.

Medicine Hat had a 16-9 advantage in the third period, and a 35-33 overall, but wasn’t able to claw back in to the game and the Warriors cruised to their third win of the preseason.

Jeannot, Popple and Hunt had a goal and two points each, while Evanoff made 32 saves.

Moose Jaw is now off until next weekend when they’ll wrap up the 2017 WHL Preseason with a home-and-home against the Brandon Wheat Kings, which starts on Friday in Manitoba. Saturday’s game at Mosaic Place will mark the return of Warriors Hockey on Country 100, catch the Pre-Game Show with James Gallo, Derek Kletzel, and Marc Smith starting at 6:55 p.m.
