For the ninth straight trip into the Scotiabank Saddledome, the Moose Jaw Warriors came out on the losing end.

Moose Jaw lost 7-1 to the Calgary Hitmen on Thursday night to open up its three-game Alberta road trip.

Logan Doust had the lone goal for the Warriors and Moose Jaw outshot Calgary, 34-30, in the loss.

The Hitmen struck for four goals in the first period, starting with a goal from Tyson Galloway just 2:42 into the opening frame.

Zac Funk and Sean Tschigerl would score back-to-back goals just 1:07 apart to make it 3-0 for the Hitmen. Tschigerl’s goal was a shorthanded marker.

Tschigerl would get his second of the game in the final minute of the first period to make it 4-0 for Calgary.

The Hitmen extended its lead to 5-0 on a goal from Cael Zimmerman 4:29 into the second.

Brandon Whynott scored just past the midway point of the frame. 

Then in the final minute of the second, David Adaszynski found the back of the net on the power play to give the Hitmen a 7-0 lead through 40 minutes.

The Warriors would breakup Hitmen goalie Brayden Peters’s shutout with 10:08 left in the game when Doust buried a rebound in front for a power play game. It’s Doust’s fifth goal in the past six games.

Carl Tetachuk started for the Warriors and stopped 10 of 14 shots in the first period. Jackson Unger came in to start the second and made 13 saves on 16 shots over the final 40 minutes.

Peters turned away 30 shots in Calgary’s net.

Moose Jaw went 1-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The Warriors will now continue its three games in three nights road trip in Red Deer on Friday night. Puck drops between the Warriors and Rebels at 8 p.m. CST.
