After beating the Central Division leaders on Tuesday, the Moose Jaw Warriors packed up and headed to Alberta where they will play three games in four nights against the Central Division.

The Warriors will open the trip by battling the Edmonton Oil Kings on Thursday night at Rogers Place.

Moose Jaw just completed a stretch that saw them play seven of their last eight games at home. They’ve collected points in all eight games.  With that in the books, the team is looking forward to heading out on the road.

“To get this trip out of the way before Christmas is good and it will be good to see what we can do on it too,” said forward Luka Burzan.

“We have good momentum going into this road trip. We need to be focused and just come out flying.”

The Warriors enter this three-game trip holding down top spot overall in the Western Hockey League and the East Division by four points over the Swift Current Broncos.

They will be playing three teams with records below .500 during the trip, which is something that the Warriors have had trouble with over the course of the year.

Burzan said they’re focused on keeping their foot on the gas throughout the weekend, “We’ve just got to take every team seriously, anything can happen in any game. It doesn’t matter where they are in the standings, we need to play the same game that we would against Swift Current or Regina or any top team,” he said.

After a slow start to the season offensively, Burzan has started to find a groove.  He has two goals and six points in his last eight games.

The 17-year-old forward said he’s started to take advantage of the opportunities that he’s being given.

“I’m getting a lot more comfortable and just staying positive,” Burzan said. “I could be playing a lot better still and I’m trying to push it a bit more.”

The Warriors will face the last place Oil Kings to open the trip on Thursday. Edmonton has just one win in their last ten games and there’s 32 points separating the Warriors and Oil Kings in the standings. Moose Jaw won their only meeting of the season, 4-2, at Mosaic Place on Oct. 12.

After Thursday’s game, the Warriors will head to Red Deer on Friday and then they travel to Calgary on Sunday afternoon.

Puck drops in Edmonton at 8 p.m. The Pre-Game Show is on the air at 7:40 p.m. on Country 100.

Warriors Back to #2... This week's CHL Top-10 rankings were released on Wednesday and the Warriors found themselves back in second place after collecting five out of six points in three games against Swift Current and Medicine Hat. The Warriors dropped to fourth last week, but were able to leapfrog Portland back into second this week. The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds took over the top spot this week as they ride a 15-game winning streak.
