Draft Day is about looking to the future, but the Moose Jaw Warriors also put together a deal to help them in the present.

After the first round wrapped up on Thursday in Red Deer, the Warriors sent 1998-born forward Vince Loschiavo to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for 2000-born forward Nick Bowman and a sixth round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

"First off, I'd like to thank Vince Loschiavo for his time as a Warrior and wish him the best in his 20-year-old season with the Oil Kings," said Warriors general manager Alan Millar.

"Nick Bowman is a solid, honest, smart player who had a good year in the league as a 16-year-old and we believe he'll benefit from a new opportunity with our hockey club."

Bowman had six goals and 12 points in 56 games last season with Edmonton. The six-foot, 185 lbs. centre has 13 goals and 26 points over two seasons in the WHL.

The Warriors acquired Loschiavo in December of 2017 from the Kootenay Ice. He had 12 goals and 23 points in 40 games with the Warriors after the trade.

The WHL Bantam Draft runs throughout the day on Thursday. The Warriors selected Winnipeg forward Eric Alarie with the 22nd overall pick in the first round.
