Coming off their first loss of the season, the Moose Jaw Warriors return to the ice on Thursday night looking for a rebound performance when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Moose Jaw dropped a 4-3 contest to the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday afternoon as the came out on the losing side for the first time this year.

Heading into their match-up with Edmonton, the Warriors have focused on cleaning up the areas of concern from last week.

“You can learn a lot from a loss, you can see what you need to do better and just take it into the rest of the season,” said forward Luka Burzan after practice on Wednesday.

“We just need to move the puck quicker, in the defensive zone we gave up a lot of turnovers and we just need to learn from our own mistakes in the D zone.”

Edmonton is coming in off a 5-2 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday night, which dropped their record to 3-5-0-0 this season.

Burzan said getting their speed and transition game going early against Edmonton will be key to any success that they’re able to have.

“We just need to get the puck moving quick and continue to get lots of shots on net,” he said.

The Warriors are receiving a lot of offence from a number of different players so far this season, but Burzan hasn’t been able to find the back of the net through six games despite sitting sixth on the team with 16 shots on goal.

Burzan has been getting to the right areas and making plays in the offensive zone, but just hasn’t been able to break through yet.

“I just need to keep taking the puck to the net and try to get the dirty one in first and it will come, it’s just a matter of time,” he said.

“There’s a lot more games to go, obviously you get a little frustrated, but I’ll just keep looking forward… I feel like I’m playing pretty well, I can play a lot better, but I’m just going to go into the next game and do whatever I can.”

After being forced to call-up 15-year-old defenceman Daemon Hunt to help with a shorthanded back-end last weekend, the Warriors are hoping to get veteran Colin Paradis back for Thursday’s game as he took part in practice on Wednesday.

Fellow defenceman Chase Hartje remains day-to-day with a lower body injury.

The Warriors and Oil Kings hit the ice at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.  The Pre-Game Show hits the air on Country 100 at 6:40 p.m.

Moose Jaw will close out their seven-game homestand on Saturday when they host the Vancouver Giants.

Warriors Drop to Ninth... This week's CHL Top-Ten came out on Wednesday with the Warriors falling from third to ninth after their loss to the Broncos, who jumped from an honourable mention to second this week.  The Victoria Royals are the top ranked team in the country, while the Portland Winterhawks are fifth.
