He needed a little bit of patience, but the Moose Jaw Warrior centreman Ryder Korczak eventually did get his name called during the NHL Entry Draft.

In the third round, the New York Rangers pulled off a trade with the Washington Capitals to get the 75th pick overall to get Korczak.

Korczak said waiting until the third round was the hardest part about the draft.

“I was expecting (to go) a little bit higher, but obviously that's where they think I should be, but I'm going to prove him wrong,” he said.

“It's different. Obviously (being there) in-person would be a little cooler and actually being there and experiencing that. Waiting with your family and joining in with your buddies is pretty cool too. But yeah, the wait's definitely hard but I'm glad it's over with.”

After being drafted he did receive a call from the Rangers as well as a number of friends and family to congratulate him.

He also received congratulations from his brother Kaeden, who was drafted into the NHL in 2019. Kaeden went to the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round, 41st overall, in the 2019 draft.

Korczak started his WHL career with the Calgary Hitmen before moving on to the Warriors for the 2019-2020 season. He’s played 132 WHL regular-season games, amassing 29 goals and 69 assists.

Fellow Moose Jaw Warriors Cole Jordan and Max Wanner were also selected in the draft. Jordan went in the fifth round, 141st overall, by the Calgary Flames and Wanner was selected in the seventh round, 212th overall, to the Edmonton Oilers.

The Warriors’ 2020 WHL Import Draft pick Martin Rysavy was also drafted in the seventh round, 197th overall, to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
