The Moose Jaw Warriors are getting set for another two-game set at Mosaic Place this weekend.

After winning four straight games to win the season, the Warriors will look to keep their roll going when they host the Kootenay Ice and Swift Current Broncos.

“We’ve started off well, so we just want to continue to build on that, keep getting better as a team and getting our systems down execute every time that we play,” said forward Justin Almeida, who has three goals and five points in four games.

The Warriors have been finding ways to win through the first four games and they will look to continue putting all the pieces of their game together.

Head coach Tim Hunter said the team is making good early season progress and he wants to see that continue this weekend.

“The things I like, our D are moving the puck quick, Brody Willms has played very well and we’ve got enough offence to win those games,” said Hunter. “We’ve just got to clean up a few things to have that happening on a more consistent basis.”

Through the first four weeks of the season, the Warriors have had a fairly favourable schedule with a week of practice leading into a pair of games on the weekend with five straight road games, counting this weekend.

They have four more home games in total to close out their six-game homestand before heading out on the road to the U.S. Division later this month.

“When you’re winning, it’s a good vibe and all the guys love coming to the rink and want to get better,” said Almeida.

“We’ve been working on our execution coming out of the D zone and how we play in the D zone and then our neutral zone fore-check.”

This weekend starts with the first meeting of the season between the Warriors and Ice. Kootenay has posted a 2-2-0-0 record through the opening four games.

After they’ve struggled in recent years, Almeida said they have to make sure they come ready to play against the Ice and not look ahead to their showdown with the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday.

“We need to take it one game at time, every team in this league can win a game any night, so we’ve got to be ready for them and we will be,” said Almeida.

The Warriors will face the Broncos on Sunday in a rematch of their first round playoff series from last season, which Swift Current won in seven games.

Swift Current has started the season undefeated as well, posting a 3-0-0-0 record heading into the weekend.

“They’re a good team as well and both of us are chasing Regina,” said Hunter. “They play three games in three nights and the third game is at four o’clock on a Sunday, so it will be a different type of game for them than it will be for us. It’s another game where we’re trying to get ourselves ready and more points in the ledger before we go out on the road trip.”

Hunter added that the Warriors will have to pay special attention to the Broncos’ top line of Tyler Steenbergen, Glenn Gawdin and Aleksi Heponiemi, who have combined for 11 goals and 29 points in three games.

The Warriors host the Ice at 7 p.m. on Friday night and the Broncos at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The Pre-Game Show will hit the air 20 minutes before puck drop of both games on Country 100.
