It was a career-night for Ryan Peckford on Sunday as the 19-year-old forward powered the Moose Jaw Warriors to a one-sided 9-1 win over the Kootenay Ice at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook, B.C.

Peckford posted four goals and five points to lead the way for the Warriors.

He said he hasn't had a night like that offensively in a while, "Probably be around bantam maybe was the last time, this is my first [WHL] hat trick, so it was a pretty good feeling," said Peckford.

The win capped off a sweep of the Warriors’ first road trip of the season after they won 3-2 in Lethbridge on Saturday. They've won three straight overall, scoring 19 goals in the three wins this week.

"We're definitely feeling pretty good, we've been playing well, so we've just got to keep it up and keep improving," said Peckford after Sunday's win.

As the Warriors started to pull away in the lopsided win, Associate Coach Mark O'Leary said that the players did a good job of sticking to their game plan.

"Once you get up by that kind of a number, you just want to remind yourself that it’s all about habits," said O'Leary. "To our credit, we earned those goals and we did it the right way, but it's easier said than done to not want to cheat the play and get your cookies. I thought our guys did a good job of playing the right way, still climbing above pucks and stopping on pucks.

"We stuck together as a group here today and got the win."

Kootenay had strong pressure in the first couple of shifts to open the game, but the Warriors weathered the storm and as the period continued, they took control.

The Warriors were aggressive in the Kootenay zone and did a good job creating turnovers, which led to second opportunities at the Ice net.

At 4:41, the puck squirted off the Kootenay left boards and came to Peckford in the circle, he drove the net and then put his stick between his legs and shot the puck over the blocker of Duncan McGovern for a highlight reel goal similar to the one that Josh Brook scored during Tuesday’s 7-0 win over Tri-City.

Just over a minute later the Warriors were back on the attack and created a turnover which led to extra attack time, the puck came to Brook at the right point and he made a pass to the top of the crease where Yegor Buyalski deflected in his fourth of the season.

At 9:43, the Warriors again were able to create a turnover inside the Kootenay zone, this time Dalton Hamaliuk moved the puck to the end boards for Kaeden Taphorn who then made a quick pass to Tate Popple inside the left circle where his quick shot found the back of the net for his fifth  of the year.

Moose Jaw kept coming and went up 4-0 at 12:17 while working on the power play when Brook made a pass between the circles where Peckford directed in his sixth of the season and second of the game.

Kootenay came out strong in the second period and they were able to pick up a goal from Owen Pederson three minutes into the period to get some life in their legs.

It didn't take long for the Warriors to respond, as just under two minutes later, Hamaliuk took a big shot from the point and the rebound sat on top of the Kootenay crease, Peckford poked at the puck and jammed it over the goal line for his hat-trick goal to make it 5-1.

The Warriors offence kept coming in the back half of the second period and just past the midway point, they picked up a power-play goal from Peckford and then Tyler Smithies scored two goals in the final five minutes to make it 8-1 after two periods.

In the third period, the Warriors outshot the Ice 15-6 and picked up a goal from Brayden Tracey to finish off the 9-1 win.

Peckford led the Warriors with four goals and five points, Smithies finished with two goals and three points, six players picked up two points, and Adam Evanoff made 19 saves in the win.

"It was definitely nice for a bunch of guys to get their first points of the year or first points of their careers, so it was a really good feeling for everyone," said Peckford.

Moose Jaw outshot the Ice, 43-20, overall and they were 3-for-3 on the power play, while they also didn't spend any time on the penalty kill.

"Last year, we had the high flying offence and knew where our offence was going to come from, but this year it's by committee, which we knew coming in, but we won 7-0 the other night and we had seven different scorers and here we are, we score another nine and there's a lot of different guys involved, so that's good to see and that's what we're going to need if we're going to have more success down the road," said O’Leary.

The Warriors are now off until the weekend when they’re back at Mosaic Place for a pair of games. On Friday night, the Edmonton Oil Kings are in town and then on Saturday afternoon, they’ll take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a 2:30 p.m. puck drop.
