It was a wild game at Mosaic Place on Wednesday night as the Moose Jaw Warriors and Medicine Hat Tigers combined for 11 goals and 91 shots in a back-and-forth affair.

The Tigers ended skating away with a 6-5 win in overtime on a power-play goal from forward Ryan Jevne.

"Not having any practice for the last couple of days sucks for us, but the way that we battled back shows a lot of character, we want the win obviously, but at the same time, it's a good learning experience for us and we're going to move forward from it," said Defenceman Jett Woo, who led the Warriors with a goal and four points in the loss.

The Warriors were on the road all last week and returned home to a power outage on Tuesday, which kept them from practicing. Head Coach Tim Hunter said Moose Jaw wasn't sharp, but played hard to stay in the game, "Chasing the game is never fun, but to their credit, they battled and they competed hard," he said.

"I fully expected this type of effort from our guys, it's not bad, it's just kind of the way it goes in the Western Hockey League with these situations."

Tristin Langan and Josh Brook picked up a goal and two points each in the win, while newly acquired forward Luke Ormsby scored in his Warrior debut.

Ormsby said it felt good to chip in right away for his new team, "It was a good feeling, that happens right off the bat so it was good," he said.

The Warriors now have points in 11 of their last 12 games and moved just two points back of the Saskatoon Blades for second place in the East Division.

The back-and-forth game opened with the Warriors and Tigers relying heavily on their speed and transition game, as the teams raced up the ice and on the attack and combined for 38 shots on net in the opening frame.

Moose Jaw picked up a power-play goal at 8:07 when Woo snuck off the right line and took a shot from the goal line that found the back of the net for his fifth of the season.

Medicine Hat responded just under three minutes later with a goal from Joel Craven. They took the lead at 13:47 on a goal from Ryan Jevne, and then extended their lead with just over a minute left in the frame when defenceman Daniel Baker score his first WHL goal.

The Warriors pushed hard to end the period and just 46 seconds after Baker's goal, Ormsby jammed the puck in along the right goal line for his fourth of the season.

Whatever momentum that the Warriors garnered from that goal, the Tigers took away early in the second period, at 1:44, Baker took a shot from the left point and Tyler Preziuso deflected over Warriors goalie Adam Evanoff to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.

Moose Jaw fought back to within one at 11:21 when they were back on the power play and Justin Almeida controlled the puck inside the left circle, he made a hard pass to the top of the Tigers crease where Langan deflected in his team-leading 19th goal.

Medicine Hat went back up by two with just over four minutes left in the period when James Hamblin deflected a puck for another Tigers power-play goal.

However, Moose Jaw came right back with another power-play goal of their own with just over two minutes left in the frame when Brook took a shot from inside the right circle that found its way over the Medicine Hat goal line for his ninth of the season, making it 5-4 heading into the third.

Four minutes into the third period, the Warriors were pressing inside the Tiger line, Tate Popple was able to put the puck between the circles where Keenan Taphorn lifted a backhand in for his seventh of the season to tie the game at five.

Both teams had their chances throughout the remainder of the third period as they combined for 27 shots in the frame and a number of quality chances.

In overtime, the Warriors took a penalty and the Tigers capitalized by setting up a one-timer for Jevne on the right circle for the win. Jevne finished with two goals and three points for Medicine Hat.

The Tigers outshot the Warriors, 46-45, and Moose Jaw was 3-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The Warriors will have a chance to close the gap on the Blades this weekend when the two sides meet for a big early season home-and-home.  They face-off on Friday in the Bridge City and on Saturday at Mosaic Place. You can catch all the action on Country 100 starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:40 p.m. both nights.
