SWIFT CURRENT -- The Moose Jaw Warriors and Swift Current Broncos went toe-to-toe for over 98 minutes in Game 4 on Wednesday night.

Matteo Gennaro won the game for the Broncos with under two minutes to play in the second overtime period to lift Swift Current to a 3-2 win over the Warriors at the Credit Union Iplex, tying their Eastern Conference semifinal series at 2-2.

Tanner Jeannot and Jett Woo scored the Warriors' goals in the loss, while Brody Willms turned away 40 shots.

"We battled right until the end," said Warriors head coach Tim Hunter. "I thought we played a real good game here, both games were real good coming off a subpar game at home and we'll be real good when we get back home again."

Moose Jaw outshot Swift Current 51-43 in the game, but the difference ended up being on special teams in this one, as the Broncos scored twice with their four man advantages, while the Warriors were held off the board in five opportunites, including one in the first overtime.

"A power play goal tonight would have really helped, it would have ended the game early," said Hunter. "We had a lot of looks, we just couldn't get the puck by the goalie, not that he did anything spectacular, it was just a matter of we didn’t put any finish on it."

The mood around the Warriors wasn’t one of defeat after dropping the lengthy game, but one of confidence as they prepare to return home for Game 5 on Friday night.

"We played two good games and there's a lot of positives from both games that we can try to build off of, so we're going to try to build off these last two games and get set for these next two," said Willms.

The Warriors have experienced overtime on four occasions this post-season, but Game 4 was the lengthiest of the games so far.

Warriors captain Brett Howden said the team was feeling the effects of the nine periods of hockey that they’ve played over the past two games.

"I thought we played a really good game, it was a really good game for both teams, it sucks that we had to come out on that end of it, but we have to reboot and get ready for the next game," he said.

"We stuck to our game plan, stayed towards the puck and supported each other all over the ice, so there was a lot of good things from tonight, even though we lost."

As expected the Warriors and Broncos played a tight first period as they fought for their chances. Moose Jaw looked to use their speed and fore-check to attack the Broncos net and they were able to generate opportunities, but they weren't able to jam the puck over the goal line.

Swift Current went on to the power play with just over six minutes remaining in the period and after a shot from the left circle they picked up a rebound and took a 1-0 lead with Gennaro's first.

Moose Jaw came out of the intermission and came at the Broncos with a hard attack as they used their fore-check to play a puck possession game inside the Swift Current zone.

At 8:40 of the second period, Kale Clague was able to keep the puck in at the left line and swung it back down low for Brett Howden, the Captain came around the net to the right goal line and then tossed the puck to the top of the crease where Jeannot tipped in his third of the playoffs to tie the game at one.

The tight battles continued throughout the period and inside the final two minutes of the period, Woo stepped off the right line to negate a Broncos clearing attempt, he took the puck down the boards and slung a wrist shot to the net that beat Stuart Skinner for his first playoff goal to give Moose Jaw a 2-1 lead.

Swift Current started the third period on the man advantage and were able to capitalize as they picked up a game-tying goal from Gennaro just as the power play expired.

Throughout the rest of the frame both teams pushed for a go-ahead goal, but neither was able to finish off their rushes, which meant they were off to overtime for the second straight night.

In the first overtime, the teams tried to clamp down as they looked to make it tough for the opposition as they came across the blue-line. Both teams did fight their way for some quality opportunities, but neither again was able to finish which send the game in to a fifth period.

The game remained tight in the second overtime as the teams pushed through fatigue to get some opportunities. With just under two minutes left in the fifth period, the Broncos fought the puck away from the Warriors on the right wall and Gennaro snapped a shot to the back of the net to give the Broncos the win.

With the series now tied at two, it will now shift back to Moose Jaw for Game 5 on Friday night. Ticket are available online at mjwarriors.ca or at the Mosaic Place Box Office.
