As the Moose Jaw Warriors get set to close out their seven-game homestand on Saturday night, the team is still looking to put their entire game together.

The Warriors are off to a 6-1-0-0 start to the season, including 5-1 at home, but they feel like they still haven’t have every facet of their game going at all times for 60 minutes.

Heading into Saturday night’s meeting with the Vancouver Giants, Moose Jaw is looking to put everything together in their final home of the month.

“We want to go out on a high note going into the U.S. trip,” said forward Jayden Halbgewachs after practice on Friday.

The Warriors are coming off a 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Thursday, which saw them return to the win column after having their five-game winning streak snapped with a one-goal loss to Swift Current last weekend.

Halbgewachs said the team is happy that they’re finding ways to collect two points most nights, but they know that their game is still developing early in the season.

“You want to win as much as you can early on, we want to go out and get the two points at the end of the day, no matter how the game goes, but we still want to play a lot better,” said the 20-year-old forward.

Halbgewachs has picked up five goals so far this season, which ties him for the team lead with Noah Gregor.  Eight players on the Warriors have scored multiple goals through seven games this season.

Getting a win before heading out on the road trip is the focus heading into Saturday’s match-up with the Giants.

“The U.S. trip is going to be a grind for us and we’ll need to bring our full game out,” said Halbgewachs.  “Road games are tough and you’ve got to bring it to win those games.”

The Warriors are looking to clean up the number of turnovers that they had against the Oil Kings.

“Most of it is just being simple and playing fast,” he said. “A lot of Edmonton’s chances came from our turnovers and our mistakes, so just cleaning up those mistakes that we’re making, getting pucks in deep and we’ll be fine.”

Saturday is Don Cherry Night at Mosaic Place as the Warriors will be wearing special edition Don Cherry inspired jerseys in a league-wide promotion to raise awareness around organ donation.

The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off during the game with the proceeds going to support the Saskatchewan branch of the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Puck drops at 7 p.m. Saturday night.  You can tune in live on Country 100 with the Pre-Game Show hitting the air at 6:40 p.m.
