The Moose Jaw Warriors and Regina Pats won’t be exchanging Valentine’s Day cards before their tilt at the Brandt Centre on Wednesday night, and chances are, they really won’t be able to stand each other by the end of the week.

Wednesday’s game will kick-off a stretch of three games in five days for the two Trans-Canada rivals.

“These are huge games, obviously the Eastern Division standings are tightening up in all aspects, so we’re going to try to get every point we can out of these games coming up,” said Warriors goalie Brody Willms, who was named CHL Goaltender of the Week on Tuesday.

Willms hasn’t allowed a goal in 121:36 after posting back-to-back shutouts last weekend, which saw him sweep the WHL and CHL weekly honours.

He said his confidence is high heading into the three-game showdown with the Pats.

“Coming off a strong weekend of two games, both team-wise and personal-wise, it feels good and it’s nice to go into a busy schedule with that past weekend,” said Willms.

“My game is trending upwards now, the last few weeks with a bit of a looser schedule and less games has helped, getting back to practice and working on the finer details of my game and that’s translating into the games.”

The Warriors put together two complete efforts to knockoff Lethbridge and Kootenay last weekend, and then they know that they’re going to need another trio of stellar efforts to come away with as many points as possible against the Pats.

“We want to play to the way we can, the way that we skated last weekend, we just want to keep building off that because Regina is a good team and we want to get these wins,” said forward Vince Loschiavo.

“We know we can play at that level for a whole game and it’s just a matter of putting it out there and doing it, but we’ve proved to ourselves that we can play that way for the whole game and that’s the way we have to play to succeed.”

The Warriors are 4-0 against the Pats so far in their eight-game season series.  They close out that series over the next 11 days, meeting for three games in five days this week and then again next Saturday.

Willms said they already know what to expect from each other and it will be the team that’s able to execute their game that will find success.

“They’ve got some good front end skill, you’ve got to be aware of that, but they’ve got some guys on the back end that can put the puck in net as well, so we’ve just got to work hard and continue to play strong defensive hockey,” he said.

Wednesday’s game kicks everything off and Loschiavo added that the Warriors need to set the tone right from the start, “We’re going into there to play our game and we need that first win to get into a bit of a rhythm,” he said.

The Warriors and Pats meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Brandt Centre. The Pre-Game Show is on the air at 6:40 p.m. on Country 100.
