The Vanier Vikings continued their domination in the boys' division of the Moose Jaw High School Senior Volleyball League on Wednesday night.

The Vikings improved to 5-0 this season with a three-set win on their home court over the Avonlea Eagles.

"We were able to establish our middle pretty well, our passing and defence was really strong, so we were able to run our offence and that was pretty good," said Vanier senior Ryan Zerff after the win.

Vanier took the first set over Avonlea, 25-17, and they continued their strong play in the second set with a 25-15 win. The Eagles jumped out in front in the third set, but the Vikings didn't panic and slowly chipped away at Avonlea's lead before winning, 25-18.

The straight set win was the third of the season for the Vikings, who have dropped just two sets in five matches so far.

The Vikings returned much of their lineup from last year's city finalist team. Zerff said their chemistry has played a bit part in their strong start to the season, "We've all been playing together for a long time, so we gel really well," he said. "Our offence has been really consistent and we've really been establishing our hitters, so if we're doing all that and consistent with that than we’ll be good."

While they've started the season strong, the Vikings remain focused on improving their team as the year progresses.

"We're trying to work on different offensive plays and stuff like that to keep teams guessing," Zerff said.

The Vikings will return to the court coming up on Tuesday when they face the Peacock Toilers as part of a doubleheader at Peacock.

The Eagles are now 3-3 this season. They host Central coming up on Tuesday.

In senior girls action on Wednesday, the Briercrest Christian Academy Cougars improved to 3-1 with a five-set win (14-25, 25-23, 25-19, 11-25, 15-13) over the Peacock Toilers, handing Peacock (6-1) its first loss of the season.
