The Moose Jaw Storm came away with two silver medals from the Sask Soccer six-aside youth indoor provincial championship in Saskatoon recently.

In the 19-Under Girls Division, the Storm lost 1-0 to Yorkton United F.C. in the final after putting together a great weekend overall.

Despite coming out on the losing end in the final, Jane Morris with the Storm said that they were able to walk away with their heads held high.

"That final was actually quite rough, it came down to a call in the penalty box, it was a rough call that could have gone either way, but we pulled ourselves together quickly and came back very strong in the last few minutes with more than one opportunity to score, so it felt like a win in the end," she said.

The silver medal performance was a big turnaround for the Storm after missing the playoffs during provincials in Moose Jaw.

Morris credited their coaches with helping to bring the team together for the provincial championship, "We had a really good team dynamic, our coaches are quite amazing people -- Kelsey Segall and Alysha Evans -- they told us to look out for each other and communication on the field is necessary," she said.

Morris walked away with some extra hardware from the weekend as she was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

"That was great, I put a lot of hard work into this team, so it was nice that it paid off," said Morris, who will be playing soccer at the University of Manitoba next season.

In the Under-17 Boys Division, the Storm also lost to the Yorkton United F.C. in the final, falling 3-2 in penalty kicks for a heartbreaking loss.

Despite the disappointing ending, the Storm put together a great run throughout the tournament.

"I'm very, very happy with the way the guys played," said Storm coach Alex Bijelic. "Our boys did well, all their wins were really high scores."

Bijelic added that the team did everything that they could to pull the win during a very thrilling final game.

"It was really exciting, the whole game was really, really high paced and the boys did what they could," said Bijelic. "Five games in two days, it was hard for them and all the opponents were really good teams."

The Storm under-17 girls went 1-1-1 during the round robin and advanced into the semi-final, but dropped a 4-0 game to Swift Current to end their run at a medal.
