Ten teams hit the court on Thursday night in the Moose Jaw High School Junior Girls Volleyball League with games happening at three different gyms around the league.

The Central Gold Cyclones hosted a four-team round robin on Thursday with Avonlea, Riverview/Mortlach and Rouleau hitting the court.

The Avonlea Eagles led the way, going 5-1 over the course of their three games. 

They opened the night with a two-set sweep (25-21, 25-8) of Central Gold; then knocked off the Royals in back-to-back sets (25-20, 25-10); before finishing the night with a split against Rouleau, the Rebels took the first set, 25-22, while the Eagles won in the second set, 25-18.

Riverview/Mortlach went 3-3 as they kicked off the night with a two-set sweep (25-9, 25-20) of Central Gold and split against Rouleau, dropping the first set, 25-12, and winning the second, 27-25.

The Rebels posted a 4-2 record as they also won in two straight sets (25-9, 25-10) against Central Gold, who finished the night 0-6.

Over at Peacock, the Toiler 10s were hosting the Vanier Spirits and Central Red Cyclones.

The host Toilers went 4-1 in their two games, beating Central Red in three sets (25-19, 21-25, 15-7) and then downing Vanier in two sets (25-17, 25-18).

The Spirits finished the night 2-3 after they topped Central Red, who went 2-4, in a three-set battle (10-25, 25-8, 15-9) to open the night.

The Caronport Cougars hosted the Peacock 9s and Central Butte for a three-team round robin on Thursday.

Central Butte cruised to a 4-0 record on the night, starting with a two-set win (25-11, 25-11) over the Cougars and then beating the Peacock 9s in two quick sets (25-7, 25-12).

Peacock won the showdown with Caronport in three sets (21-25, 25-12, 15-11).

The 2017 Moose Jaw Senior Girls Volleyball Tournament is coming up on Friday and Saturday at Peacock Collegiate.

Peacock, Caronport, Central and Vanier welcome in eight other teams from around the province for two full days of action.

The games start at noon on Friday and run throughout the afternoon with the final match-up hitting the court at 8 p.m.

The tournament wraps up on Saturday with the round robin getting back underway at 9 a.m. and running through 2 p.m.  The quarterfinals go at 3 and 4 p.m. followed by the semifinals at 5 p.m. and the final at 6 p.m.
