The totals are in and the Moose Jaw Generals Benefit Game was able to raise over $27,000 last week.

The event was put on by the local midget AAA team in honour of former player Evan Thomas, who was one of 16 people that died in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash on Apr. 6.

Former teammates of Thomas, Chantz Petruic and Ahmed Ally, organized the game as a way to remember their friend and come together to continue to grieve.

Generals head coach Ray Wareham commended the work done by Petruic and Ally to put the game together.

"Those two guys organized the players and did everything around it and for it to turn out as well as it did, just extremely proud," said Wareham after the game last week. "It's not the kind of night that we wanted to have as far as in the memory, but Evan would be real pleased with what happened."

The game featured over 40 current and former Generals, as well as players with connections to Thomas from the WHL and SJHL levels. The night featured a lot of laughs and hugs as the players hit the ice in memory of their friend.

"It was just a great way to honour Evan and to Scott (Thomas) and his family here, it was a special night," said Wareham.

Over $19,000 was brought in through donations at the door, while the 50/50 raised $5,470, the silent auction raised $2,130 and the chuck-a-puck added just under $1,000 to the total.

All the funds raised will be going to the Humboldt Broncos and Jordyn Thomas Education Fund.
