Last week, the Moose Jaw Warriors were stymied more than a few times by goaltender Bryan Thomson of the Lethbridge Hurricanes, as the 'Canes won 7-1. The Warriors aren’t the only team that Thomson has done well against this year, as he’s inserted his name into the conversation about potentially being drafted this year.

He’s had a great season for the Hurricanes, with a 2.69 goals against average and a 13-4-1 win loss record and 90.4 save percentage.

Thomson was born in Moose Jaw and is a local minor hockey product playing in his first full season with the Hurricanes. Thomson was looking forward to getting that start.

“As soon as I found out I was getting the start for (that) game, I got pretty excited,” he said. “Also a little bit of nerves, because there was going to be some family and friends watching. But it was an overall exciting feeling for me, especially to get this win.”

He's eligible for the NHL draft for the first time this year, and he's ranked fifth among North American goaltenders.

Thomson said the draft in the back of his mind.

“When I’m on the ice, I’m focusing on getting better and stopping the puck,” Thomson said. “But when I’m in the gym, that’s my end goal. When I’m in the gym or practicing, that’s where I want to be. So whatever it takes to get there.”

If he's chosen in the entry draft he would be the second Moose Jaw born player chosen in as many years, as Reece Newkirk was chosen in the 2019 draft by the New York Islanders.
